DSL connection and suitable Modem-router

Postby palimmo » 26 Mar 2018 19:22

I would like to change my DSL Provider and choose this with 100MBit/s:
https://www.netcologne.de/sites/default ... M_ohne.pdf

They provide this modem-router... but I find it not really excellent:
Fritz!Box 7430
VDSL bis 100 MBit/s, ADSL2+ und ADSL
WLAN N (bis 450 MBit/s brutto, 2,4 GHz)

https://avm.de/produkte/fritzbox/fritzb ... che-daten/
https://www.netcologne.de/privatkunden/ ... rvergleich

What do you think?
Any suggestions? Thanks!

The relevant difference seems to be the port speed: Fast net versus gigabit net. Theoretically 100Mbit network should be fast enough for 100 Mbit internet - you won't get the 100 Mbit anyway.

But for connecting your machines among each other you'd need to use a gigabit switch (20 EUR) because I wouldn't want to be limited to 100 Mbit there.

I am not really interested in exchanging data among my machines...

I think I will buy this one... hopefully it works good with netcologne

Another difference I noted: The TP mmodel and the cheaper Fritzbox have only USB 2.0. If you intend to use the USB port for file server purposes you shoud invest in a box with USB 3.0.

You should check with netcologne support about the TP router - be warned that whenever something doesn't work as you exspect it, they will most probably blame your router and deny support.

Well, you are right.
The situation is pretty complicated:

https://www.netcologne.de/privatkunden/ ... ab-18884-2

VDSL2 ITU-T G.993.2, Annex-B/-J
Vectoring ITU-T G.993.5 (> 50 Mbit/s)
VDSL-Profil 17A
VDSL-Profil 30A (> 50 Mbit/s)
In particular this VDSL-Profil 30A is not really common in many DSL-routers... :?
