[SOLVED] Power management configuration module could not be loaded

Postby palimmo » 28 Aug 2017 09:00

Hi.
I was going to have a look at my Energy saving configurations.
I opened "Energy Saving" and I was advised that

Code: Select all

Power management configuration module could not be loaded.
The Power management service appears not to be running.
This can be solved by starting or scheduling it inside "Startup and Shutdown".
I cannot find that module on the list.
I suppose it is Powerdevil: according to Synaptic it is installed, as well as Upower.

What should I do?
Thanks!

Code: Select all

by default the power management is handled by upower and it could be easily configured from power manager. there are several front end of power manager but I suppose the plasma power manager should work by default.

but unfortunately it doesn't, since

Code: Select all

Power management configuration module could not be loaded.

that message doesn't us anything. at least you'll need a dmesg log.

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep foo
No idea what you have to grep for though - power doesn't give much. You think of something just not foo :-)

Kurotsugi asked you to post a dmesg output, which might be really long, so I posted the command to search (grep) for something in the dmesg log. "foo" means "insert any word/number/whatever here", so for example:

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep power
But on my system, nothing is found with the word "power". And I have no idea which keyword kurotsugi had in mind.

you can always start with 'dmesg -l warn' or 'dmesg -l err'. that will filter the result to more usable one.

no worries. AFAIK the only dangerous thing is this one

Code: Select all

[ 22.349555] FAT-fs (sda6): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.
the other message was either bios related issue or something else.

the good news is that nothing seems broken on low level. I assume that both upower and power manager should be working (you can check them on services list). unfortunately, the front-end, plasma's power manager, I don't know much about it. since upower and power manager is working, as a workaround, you can use them to manage power related stuf.

Thanks.
Lost the page when login in but what worked for me was to System Settings > Desktop Session > using Offer shutdown options already selected] & Turn off computer [was End current session] & Start with an empty session [already selected]

Rebooted and now Power Management works with out the error about not running.
