Re: apt-transport-https by default

Just for your information, apt-transport-https serves no purpose on Buster and later. It's a dummy: https://packages.debian.org/buster/apt-transport-https

I will need to find a way to prevent it being added to my system (I try to remove cruft whenever I recognise it...).

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Curious. I installed SolydX EE 32 201803 on a test machine just now and the installer package was removed as intended. I'm afraid I can't explain why it wasn't removed on your installation.

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

No, the live-installer package should have been removed automatically, during the installation. If it was still there, the installation didn't complete properly. Did you have any indication this may have been the case? Did the installation end with a message about the installation finishing?

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Searching the web for that particular error doesn't help much. Another kernel option mentioned is nouveau.modeset=0 , which seems to be similar to nomodeset but for nvidia cards only. If your machine has such a card, maybe you could try that (if you haven't already). Other than that, I'm afraid I ha...

Re: SolydXK on Social Media

A bit late, but I just got back.

I do use twitter myself, but even before Zuckertorte called his users "dumb f*cks", I had decided I didn't want anything to do with faecesbook.

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Right. Trying to get back on track now (both here and with several other projects, so may take a while...). Thanks for testing. Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

For SolydKee_10_64_201803 Overall the process felt like it was taking forever but I didn't do any other timing. Thanks for testing. The SolydK EE slowness (at least in a VM) is a known issue. I have no idea what could fix it at this time... :( I don't know about the current state of solydxk-system ...

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Uploading all six CE ISOs now. Should appear here later this evening. Not tested, only briefly checked in a VM. Just the live system, not installed, so no idea if they're any use after installation. The SolydK EEs are (still) very slow at starting up: the plymouth screen shows, then a black one and ...

Do you think there's a risk of introducing instability with this repository?
Not really. The standard sources.list according to The Debian Administrator's Handbook (section 6.1.2) includes it.

Re: Do we really need clamav?

Interesting aspect - I haven't heard anything like that. Do you happen to have an example? Nothing recent, no. There was a list of conditions which included keeping your AV software up-to-date when I started using online banking, years ago. I have seen some stories about what can happen if you don'...

Re: Do we really need clamav?

Not having AV software on your system can have serious repercussions if you get into any kind of malware or phishing related problem with your bank. Some banks specifically mention AV software in their general terms and conditions for online banking. Doesn't make any difference what OS you use. No A...

Re: Sources.list

Updates should be included, I think.

As for solydxk-system modifying sources.list, I've always had my doubts about that, but I can't think of a better way to make sure people have the right items in the list... :?

Re: SolydXK System Settings (GUI for solydxk-system)

Almost. You also need to add the M flag, i.e. change line 1160 in solydxk-system.py to:

Code: Select all

matchObj = re.search(regexp, fstab_cont, re.M)
The ^ by itself means look at the start of the line, but the string in fstab_cont is multiline.
